A precious love found at the end of the road in search of gold

 

KNO will premiere Puccini's opera in Korea. This masterpiece was created by a composer with inspiration from the new play [The Girl of the Golden West] that he saw while visiting New York in 1907, which was written by American writer David Belasco. It is set in a coal mine in California during the Gold Rush era, illustrating the lives and sorrows of European immigrants who sought new lives in America in the 19th century. This romantic opera beautifully portrays the love of Minnie, a smart, independent and high-spirited woman who runs a bar in the Wild West, and an outlaw who sneaked into the town. Featuring Puccini's characteristic sweet and beautiful melody, it is an opera in which the ebullient, leading role of the female protagonist stands out. It will be directed by Nicola Berloffa who has offered a fresh interpretation of performed by KNO's Cosi fan tutte, 2018, and will be conducted by Italian Maestro Pietro Rizzo.

 

Ramerrez, an infamous thief under the pseudonym Dick Johnson, approaches Minnie after having his eye on her at first glance with the intention of sponging off her. Dick Johnson visits Minnie to spend the night at her house. When the villagers rush to Minnie's house, Minnie hides the man. After the villagers leave, the sheriff kicks in the door, and despite Minnie's lie, a drop of blood falling from the ceiling reveals Dick's presence.

Minnie proposes a poker game to the sheriff, asking him to let Dick go if she wins. On the other hand, the sheriff makes a deal himself that if he wins, he will win her and Ramerrez as well. Minnie plays a trick to win the game and Dick Johnson leaves. A week later, the sheriff and his men arrest Ramerrez, but the villagers allow the two to leave together at Minnie's desperate pleading Eventually, the man and woman set off to start a new life.​
